Homer referred to her as 'Artemis of the wild lands, mistress of animals'. In classical Greek mythology she is the twin sister of Apollo. The Hellenic goddess of the hunt, wild animals, wilderness, childbirth and young girls, she is often depicted as a huntress carrying a bow and arrows.
